About This Herb: Our Chaste Tree berries are harvested when ripe and carefully dried. This beautiful shrub gets its name from the belief that it promoted chastity—monks in medieval times used it to reduce libido. Ironically, it’s now best known as a fertility and hormone-balancing herb for women!
Traditional Uses: Vitex is primarily used for women’s hormonal health. It works on the pituitary gland to balance progesterone and estrogen levels. Traditionally used for PMS, irregular periods, painful periods, fibroids, endometriosis, and fertility support. It’s also used for menopausal symptoms and acne related to hormonal imbalance.
How to Prepare: As a tea, steep 1 teaspoon in hot water for 10-15 minutes. The flavor is peppery and slightly bitter. As a tincture, take 30-60 drops daily, typically in the morning. Best used consistently for 3-6 months for full effect—it’s not a quick fix but a deep balancer.
Safety & Considerations: Not for use during pregnancy or nursing. May interact with hormone therapies and birth control. May reduce libido in some women (the medieval monks weren’t entirely wrong!). Consult your healthcare provider before use.
