Nestled in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia, The Herb Peddler at Horse-n-Bear Ranch is a traditional herbal apothecary and farmstead where we utilize the resources of our mountain farm in every product we create. We specialize in crafting handmade goat’s milk soaps and salves, farm-crafted herbal elixirs and oxymels, and time-honored herbal remedies. Founded by Drs. Charlotte and Timothy Test, we combine decades of experience in Master Herbalism and Traditional Naturopathy with sustainable farm practices.
Our mission is to honor time-tested herbal traditions while supporting modern wellness. Our products, from goat’s milk soaps to herbal tinctures, are crafted on our farm at Horse-n-Bear Ranch, using herbs grown by us or ethically sourced.

From the Forest to the Apothecary
At Horse-n-Bear Ranch, home of The Herb Peddler, we believe in honoring the whole tree. Our signature Black Walnut trees provide more than just the potent hulls we use in our Formula No. 16 and traditional tinctures. We also utilize our own on-farm saw mill to craft heirloom-quality Black Walnut Charcuterie Boards. This ‘whole-tree’ philosophy ensures that nothing goes to waste, connecting our woodworking craftsmanship directly to our herbal apothecary. We pair each board with one of our Holler to Hearth kitchen herb (culinary) blends such as Sacred Ground.

The Herb Peddler is proud to be a veteran-owned and operated farm business. Timothy Test served in the United States Marine Corps, and the values of service, dedication, and perseverance continue to guide the work we do today on our farm.
