Description
Botanical Name: Hibiscus sabdariffa
About This Herb: Our Hibiscus flowers are carefully dried whole to preserve their stunning crimson color and tangy character. Also known as Roselle or Flor de Jamaica, these vibrant calyces have been treasured in many cultures for their refreshing properties and stunning appearance.
Traditional Uses: Hibiscus is traditionally used to support healthy blood pressure and cardiovascular health. Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, it has been valued in West African, Mexican, and Caribbean traditions as a cooling, refreshing beverage. The bright red infusion is also known as “agua de Jamaica” in Mexico and “bissap” in West Africa.
How to Prepare: As a tea, steep 1-2 teaspoons in hot water for 10-15 minutes. The resulting deep red infusion can be enjoyed hot or iced. Sweeten with honey or agave to balance the natural tartness. Makes a wonderful base for herbal tea blends and pairs beautifully with mint, cinnamon, or ginger.
Safety & Considerations: May interact with blood pressure medications and diuretics. Large amounts may affect estrogen levels. If you have low blood pressure, monitor your response. Consult your healthcare provider before use, especially if managing a health condition.
