Description
Botanical Name: Commiphora myrrha
About This Herb: Our Myrrh is the dried resin collected from the Commiphora tree, one of the most ancient and precious medicinal substances known to humanity. It was valued by the ancient Egyptians for embalming, mentioned in the Bible as a gift of the Magi, and used continuously for thousands of years for its remarkable healing properties.
Traditional Uses: Myrrh is a powerful antimicrobial, astringent, and anti-inflammatory. It’s best known for oral health—traditionally used for gum disease, mouth ulcers, and sore throats. It’s also used topically for wounds, skin infections, and fungal conditions. Internally, it’s used for digestive and respiratory infections.
How to Prepare: As a tincture, 10-30 drops in water as a mouthwash or for internal use. As a tea, simmer 1/2 teaspoon in water for 10-15 minutes (the flavor is very strong and bitter). Can be added to salves and ointments for external use.
Safety & Considerations: Not for use during pregnancy or nursing. May interact with diabetes medications. Not for long-term daily use. May cause digestive upset in some individuals. Consult your healthcare provider before use.
