Price range: $4.25 through $7.50
A traditional antiparasitic and alterative herb for skin conditions and internal cleansing. The green hulls are rich in iodine and juglone.
Description
Botanical Name: Juglans nigra
About This Herb: Our Black Walnut hulls are harvested from the green fruits before the nuts mature, then carefully dried. The black walnut tree is a powerful presence in the landscape, and its hulls are one of our strongest antiparasitic and antifungal herbs. The dark staining juice has been used for centuries. Some of the biggest trees we have on our mountain farm are Black Walnut. We also have plenty down in the holler.
Traditional Uses: Black walnut hulls are primarily used as an antiparasitic for intestinal worms and protozoa. They’re also valued as an alterative for skin conditions like ringworm, athlete’s foot, and eczema. The high iodine content supports thyroid function, and they’re astringent and cleansing.
How to Prepare: As a tea, simmer 1 teaspoon in water for 15-20 minutes. The bitter, astringent flavor is strong—best combined with other herbs. As a tincture, take 20-40 drops up to three times daily. Often used in parasite cleansing protocols for 2-4 weeks.
Safety & Considerations: Not for use during pregnancy or nursing. May interact with thyroid medications. Not for long-term daily use. May cause staining of hands and surfaces. Consult your healthcare provider before use.
