Description
Botanical Name: Glycyrrhiza glabra
About This Herb: Our Licorice root is cut and sifted, carefully harvested from mature plants. The name “Glycyrrhiza” means “sweet root” in Greek, and it’s 50 times sweeter than sugar! This beloved herb has been found in Egyptian tombs and is one of the most frequently used herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Traditional Uses: Licorice is an adaptogenic herb that supports adrenal health and helps the body respond to stress. It’s also a soothing demulcent for respiratory and digestive tissues. In TCM, it’s known as “the great harmonizer” and is added to many formulas to balance other herbs and direct them to the twelve meridians.
How to Prepare: As a tea, simmer 1 teaspoon in water for 10-15 minutes. The naturally sweet flavor is delicious on its own or blended with other herbs. As a tincture, take 20-40 drops up to three times daily. Often combined with marshmallow for respiratory support or with ashwagandha for adrenal health.
Safety & Considerations: Not for use during pregnancy or nursing. Avoid with high blood pressure, kidney disease, or low potassium. May interact with diuretics and blood pressure medications. Do not use continuously for more than 6 weeks without professional guidance. Consult your healthcare provider before use.
