Description

Botanical Name: Trigonella foenum-graecum

About This Herb: Our Fenugreek seeds are whole and organic, carefully selected for their quality and maple-like aroma. These golden-brown seeds have been used for thousands of years across many cultures – in Indian cooking, Middle Eastern cuisine, and traditional herbal medicine. The name means “Greek hay,” reflecting its use as animal fodder in ancient Greece.

Traditional Uses: Fenugreek is best known as a galactagogue – traditionally used to support healthy breast milk production in nursing mothers. It’s also valued for supporting healthy metabolism and blood sugar levels already within normal range. In Ayurveda, it’s used for digestive health and as a rejuvenative tonic. The seeds are also a common spice in curry powders and spice blends.

How to Prepare: As a tea, simmer 1 teaspoon in water for 10-15 minutes. The maple-like flavor is pleasant with honey and lemon. Seeds can be sprouted for salads, or ground and used in cooking. Often taken in capsules or as a tincture for convenience. The powder can be added to smoothies or warm milk.

Safety & Considerations: Not for use during pregnancy (can stimulate uterine contractions). Safe during lactation. May interact with diabetes medications and blood thinners. May cause maple-syrup odor in sweat and urine (harmless). Consult your healthcare provider before use.
