Description
Botanical Name: Tanacetum vulgare
About This Herb: Our Tansy herb is wild crafted and cut and sifted, harvested from its native habitats at peak flowering. This robust perennial with its button-like yellow flowers has a long history in European herbalism, though it’s less commonly used today. The strong, camphoraceous aroma is distinctive and memorable.
Traditional Uses: Tansy was traditionally used as a vermifuge (expelling worms) and as a digestive bitter. It was also used externally for skin complaints and as an insect repellent – it was often strewn on floors to repel pests. In very small amounts, it was used for menstrual complaints and fevers. Modern herbalists use it with great caution and respect.
How to Prepare: For experienced herbalists only. Use in very small amounts in formulas, typically as a small percentage of a blend. Not recommended for internal use without professional guidance. Historically used as a tea (steep 1/2 teaspoon in hot water) but this is not recommended for general use.
Safety & Considerations: NOT FOR USE DURING PREGNANCY. Can be toxic in large doses. Contains thujone. For experienced herbalists only. Do not use internally without professional guidance. External use only recommended for most individuals. Keep out of reach of children. Consult a qualified healthcare provider before use.
