Description

Botanical Name: Ulmus rubra

About This Herb: Our Slippery Elm bark is sustainably harvested from the inner bark of the elm tree, then carefully dried and powdered or cut. This gentle, nourishing herb has been used for centuries by Native Americans and settlers alike as both food and medicine. When mixed with water, it forms a soothing, mucilaginous gruel.

Traditional Uses: Slippery Elm is the ultimate demulcent—it forms a soothing film when mixed with water, coating irritated tissues. It’s traditionally used for sore throats, coughs, digestive irritation (gastritis, heartburn, IBS), and inflammatory bowel conditions. It’s also highly nutritious and was used as a survival food.

How to Prepare: As a gruel, mix 1 teaspoon with a little cold water to form a paste, then add hot water or milk and honey. As a tea, steep in hot water for 10-15 minutes (it will become slightly thick). Can be added to smoothies or taken in capsules.

Safety & Considerations: Generally recognized as safe. May slow the absorption of other medications; take at least one hour apart from other herbs or medications. Sourced from sustainable, conscious harvesters. Consult your healthcare provider before use.
